Hormone Therapy for Menopause
Restore Balance. Feel Like Yourself Again.
Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can affect nearly every aspect of your health. Hot flashes, night sweats, poor sleep, brain fog, mood changes, weight changes, vaginal dryness, low libido, and fatigue are all common symptoms—and they are treatable.
Hormone therapy remains the most effective treatment for vasomotor symptoms and can also improve sleep, mood, sexual health, bone health, and overall quality of life for many women. When appropriate, treatment can also help preserve muscle mass, support cognitive function, and improve energy and motivation.
At Balanced Women’s Wellness, hormone therapy is never one-size-fits-all. Every treatment plan is customized based on your symptoms, medical history, goals, and personal preferences.
Hormone Therapy Options
Depending on your individual needs, your treatment plan may include one or more of the following:
Estrogen Therapy
Estrogen is the most effective treatment for hot flashes, night sweats, and many other symptoms of menopause. It also plays an important role in maintaining bone health and, when started at the appropriate time in appropriately selected women, may support cardiovascular and brain health. Estrogen can also improve sleep, vaginal and urinary symptoms, and overall quality of life.
Progesterone Therapy
For women with a uterus using systemic estrogen, progesterone plays an essential role in protecting the uterine lining and reducing the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and cancer.
Progesterone may also provide benefits beyond uterine protection. Oral micronized progesterone is often taken at bedtime and may improve sleep quality and reduce nighttime awakenings for some women. Some women also notice improvements in mood or anxiety, although individual responses can vary.
Testosterone Therapy
Testosterone plays an important role in women’s health throughout life, with levels naturally declining with age. For appropriately selected women, testosterone therapy can improve sexual desire, arousal, and sexual satisfaction. Some women also report improvements in energy, motivation, strength, and overall well-being, although research supporting these benefits is still evolving. Testosterone therapy is not appropriate or necessary for every woman, and treatment should be individualized with careful dosing and monitoring to maintain physiologic levels.

Frequently Asked Questions
Am I too young for hormone therapy?
Perimenopause can begin years before your final menstrual period. If you’re experiencing symptoms, you don’t have to wait until menopause to seek treatment.
Do I need all three hormones?
No. Hormone therapy is never one-size-fits-all. Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone each have different roles, and every treatment plan is individualized based on your symptoms, medical history, and goals.
Some women benefit from one hormone alone, while others may benefit from a combination of two or three. For example, women who cannot take estrogen because of certain medical conditions may still be candidates for progesterone or testosterone therapy. During your consultation, we’ll determine which hormones, if any, are appropriate for you.
Do you prescribe bioidentical hormones
Yes. When appropriate, I prescribe bioidentical hormone therapies as well as other FDA-approved treatment options. The best choice depends on your medical history, symptoms, and treatment goals.
Can I receive care virtually?
Yes. All appointments are conducted through secure telehealth visits for women located in Connecticut, making expert menopause care convenient from the comfort of your home.
